the inverted social pyramid!

tales from the bottom of the mutual fund industry.

wow we had a good year.. as many of you guys know the firm I work for is in the mutual fund industry.. this is a firm that is dominated by giants.. pretty much everyone is familiar with the big names: fidelty, vanguard, etc. we're just a tiny upstart company... literally some minnows swimming against whales...

and we now manage half a billion dollars...

and our fund has only been open five years....

how is this possible? our performance has been decent... but there are many other funds out there that have had similar success... i even an a boring no load index fund (SP 500) that is absolutely killing our fund..

it all comes down to marketing.. we have excellent relations with financial advisers... client relations is really at the source of everything in business...we are constantly in contact with them, throwing events and dinners where we educate them about the product... they then see the value in our product and then put their clients money into our funds.

fairly straightforward

but anywho many funds simply don't do this.. there are many mutual funds where performance is greatly superior to ours, and over a far longer period of time.. however, they don't market properly and thus stay quite small
